ABC steps up with UGLY BETTY

Okay, I haven't seen the pilot for "Ugly Betty", but I've had my eye on this one ever since I learned that my girl, Vanessa Williams, would be starring. "Betty" was originally relegated to the grave of the Friday night line up. Ugh, is all I could come up with. So, imagine the smile on my face to read this little bit of scheduling news:

ABC has given a big vote of confidence to its new series "Ugly Betty," moving the show away from the relative quiet of Friday night and into the competitive fray on Thursdays.

"Betty," an adaptation of the telenovela "Betty La Fea," is now scheduled to premiere at 8 p.m. ET on Thursday, Sept. 28, where it will lead off a lineup that also includes the hit hospital drama "Grey's Anatomy" and another new series, "Six Degrees." ABC will move utility player "America's Funniest Home Videos" into the 8 p.m. Friday spot that was "Betty's" original home. - Zap2it

Yes! That is more like it. I heard/read that 'Betty' did well at the upfronts, but was disappointed with Friday line up. But, Thursday nights right before "Grey's Anatomy" (my current favorite show that I've actually seen) is second only to Thursday nights AFTER 'Grey's Anatomy'.

-In other Vanessa news, her ex-husband, former basketball star Rick Fox, has signed on for a recurring role on FX's "Dirt"

Vanessa Williams Appreciation: Running Back To You (Video)

Okay, I remember when this song first came out back in 1991. I was 16 years old listening to Tom Joyner on WGCI radio station in Chicago. I was already a HUGE Vanessa Williams fan at that point. RUNNING BACK TO YOU was the first single and I remember thinking, "DAMN, this shit is HOT, HOT, HOT". I was really in to music videos back then (I couldn't give a shit about a music video today). Funny how some things change while others remain. I still love this video. My girl is HOT, HOT, HOT.

Love you, 'Nessa.

Random side note: Who knew Amy Grant did a remake of Vanessa's Oh How The Years Go By? I didn't. I used to really like Amy Grant. I remember she had some really sad song about rape or something. Made me cry when I heard it. I bought that album. Then she fell off my radar. Cute, but not my 'nessa.

SAVE THE BEST FOR LAST gets all of the attention, but I also really enjoy ONE REASON, JUST FOR TONIGHT, WHAT WILL I TELL YOUR HEART and THE COMFORT ZONE (that's my shit right there).

ж Meanwhile, I read somewhere recently that she has booked one of the lead roles for ABC's upcoming pilot, UGLY BETTY. I haven't been able to verify it with Variety or Hollywood Reporter, but I'm hoping its true.
