When I conducted researched for my first New York-to-Los Angeles move back in the late-90s I couldn't read anything without coming upon the name of Mike Ovitz. He is one of the iconic figures who created CAA and forever changed the history of Hollywood. He had also suffered a humiliating fall from grace at Disney. And he had just poached some top managers and talent from Keith Addis and Nick Wechsler's Industry Entertainment in order to set up his own management company. That also quickly failed. But, the one Los Angeles landmark that will forever be associated with Mike Ovitz, at least in my mind, is their building at 9830 Wilshire Blvd.. I remember the first and the last time I drove by IM Pei's structure like it was yesterday. And my first meeting in that building...wow. I had never felt so awestruck. Unfortunately, you only have nanoseconds to feel that way before you have to snap back in to attention because the vultures and sharks are circling you and your client. But, I digress. I bring all this up because CAA is leaving its legendary location for Century City.
